TEAM PHOENIX-CHILDRENS FOUNDATION

MISSION STATEMENT

To service “at-risk” youths and low-income families who look for better ways in developing their children or selves. To reach our community and communities outside through developing disciplined students who will be empowered with the confidence, security and strength needed in their personal and professional lives in order to survive and prosper through life’s great challenges.

Philosophy

Team Phoenix, Inc. is a state of Florida non-profit agency incorporated in March 2006.  Team Phoenix will accept students of all ages, races, ethnicities, religious beliefs and socioeconomic backgrounds, believing that no student should be forced to participate in activities that are solely Christian, bur rather, demonstrating Christianity through actions that will foster the student’s own willingness to open his or her life to The Most High.

Program Activities

Students who are recipients of the scholarship program and who are attending at a free or reduced price based on a sliding-scale fee will blend into the regularly scheduled classes and will receive the same instruction as students paying full price.  The number of students who participate in this aspect of the program is not limited.

All students will have the opportunity to participate in quarterly tournaments.  Tournaments are group gatherings of various Martial Arts Schools who come together in one location to compete against one another in good sportsmanship. All students benefit from tournaments by applying what they have been taught, using focus, precision, speed, endurance and, most importantly, respect towards each other.  Developing these characteristics will assist them in excelling in their relationships at home, school and work.

The program will begin with 15 openings for students who are referred by school counselors, social service agencies or law enforcement agencies will participate in a special, intensive after-school program specifically designed with the at-risk youth in mind.  Daily activities will include: academics (homework), physical conditioning, and training in the Martial Arts.  In order to further foster independence, responsibility and self confidence, each student will be assigned a special task weekly and given a deadline to complete it. Additionally, these students and their parents will attend classes on Saturdays, which will include optional access to social services, including case management, counseling, and pastoral care and counseling provided by Dianne L. Bates, MSW.
