LOST LEGACY's Police Arts System - This is a well strategic put together self defense course for Law Enforcement & the Military teaching them, without any major effort, to control all surroundings whether it is one on one or multiple attacks. What is a “typical class”?

We generally try to make each class have an element of it’s own character.  Class begins with the school creed then in “seiza” which is a short time of silence in a seated position with your eyes closed.  This allow you to relax, forget the day, and refocus your energies toward training.  After seiza, we begin a period of stretching that will vary from class to class.  Usually a black or brown belt will lead the warm up.  Following stretching, there is usually

basics. We often run a cycle of basic training including stances, kicks, blocks and punches.  After basics, the class may take on several different avenues…depending on the students and instructor desires.

A class, depending on day, might consist of…

  1. Applied technique:  these are application of movements that the student learns and how to use them in situations against an opponent (standing upright or grappling).
  2. Kata:  these are pre-arranged, choreographed series of movements where by the student is taught to defend against several imaginary opponents.  Kata workouts are demanding and precise.  There is really only one way to do the kata right, hence, the emphasis is on perfecting the kata.
  3. Kumite:  this is actual sparring against an opponent.  Our kumite is spirited, very controlled and lots of fun.  Even white belts will get to spar with advanced black belts who can teach them while they spar with them.
  4. Basics:  a class may consist of only basic movements or specifically on one or two techniques.
  5. MMA:  Phoenix Sensei (Grand Master Le Grand) developed the style of LOST LEGACY which is a combination of judo, karate, juijitsu, grappling/wrestling and some of Phoenix Sensei’s “battle tested” techniques.

Class ends with seiza followed by the “dojo creed” and respectful bows, hugs, and handshakes to the instructor(s) and fellow class mates.  Students will often “hang around” and enjoy the camaraderie of their training partners.
